Solo Artist Exhibition: Opening Photos & Feedback

Last Friday's opening reception for the Hui's annual Solo Artist Exhibition was a fantastic event, with a great turnout and even greater energy.

Sidney Yee & Kevin Omuro's friends and supporters made a wonderful effort to welcome O`ahu artist Scott Groeniger into the Hui `ohana. Sidney took a moment to share how lucky he felt to be celebrated as an artist. He also introduced Shannon O'Brien, the psychic (and friend) whose reading, years back, was the catalyst for Sidney's artistic exploration of his Chinese roots ("growing up from the ground, like a turnip"). Many guests and Hui artists were quite taken by Scott's digital prints, grand and luminous on watercolor paper. Curious visitors asked lots of questions, which Scott was eager to answer, lei piled high around his neck.

In attendance were artists like Jennifer Owen, Michi Itami, Cudra Clover, and past Solo Exhibition participant Jaisy Hanlon, restaurateur Michael Moore, board members Bob Flint & Tim Garcia, Honolulu artist (and Scott's wife) Kristen Simonsen, friends Mary & Darrell Orwig and Naomi Tamura, along with dozens of others. Paul Janes-Brown and Lily Diamond stopped by to review the show (See Paul's review here). Many admirers and collectors lucky enough to get the first look at the work will take a piece or two home come July 23, when the exhibition closes.

Scott's walk-through on Saturday was a success as well, with a captive group assembled to learn more about the work (including Sidney & Kevin!).

We hope you will join us as the Hui to experience the exhibit for yourself. Hours: Monday - Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm, FREE through July 23.
